According to Emily Rogers the Wii U System Update is rumoured to be releasing this Thursday April 25. Following the update, the virtual console line-up – previously thought to arrive today – is scheduled for release on Friday, along with Miiverse paving the ground on Mobiles and PC sometime this week. The maintenance report will give you some detail as to when and if this update is happening, but it looks like we’ll just have to wait for confirmation from Nintendo.
The sequel to The Denpa Men: They Came By Wave is heading to the North American 3DS eShop and, by all accounts, in the next month. Denpa Men 2: Beyond the Waves will be available to download on May 2 – a considerable time since the Japanese release last year.
If you’re not familiar with the series, Denpa Men is a classic dungeon-crawler with a few bizarre moments added to fill in the gaps. The aim is to capture the small Denpa Men and create a following to explore the dungeon maps. There’s been no word as to whether there will be a European release, however, so we’ll just have to sit tight for now.
If you’ve played Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, you’ll receive a special note from the game’s producer, Shigeru Miyamoto. The note is sent via the Swapnote application on Nintendo 3DS. In the Note, Miyamoto tells fans that the “Year of Luigi” has only begun, and that he’s sure Luigi appreciates his fans’ support. After you read the special note, you’ll receive a new Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon-themed stationery, which you can then use to write your own notes.
… It’s just me, Shigeru Miyamoto!
How do you like Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon?
I hope you are not too scared like him (Luigi). Year of Luigi just started.
I’m sure he appreciates your support!!

True to their word, Nintendo is continuing to build their social community and they’re beginning with a new release of an image sharing app for the Nintendo 3DS. Today, Japan received the new software which allows you to take pictures from specific games and upload them straight to Tumblr and Twitter.
Currently, the sharing tool only supports two games – Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Tomadachi Collection: New Life – where you can take a screenshot, go to Nintendo’s mobile website and log into the preferred social networking site to finally upload. On Twitter, screenshots will be accompanied by automatic hashtags so players can locate 3DS images with ease. Would you like to see the image sharing tool come over to the West?
According to an interview on MCV, Nintendo have said that 2013 is the unequivocal year for the 3DS as the next 12 months are absolutely crucial for the continuing success of the handheld console. In fact, Nintendo is adamant that 2013 will see the grand conversion of many DS owners, hopping on the proverbial 3D wagon, and purchasing a 3DS. The sheer influx of triple A games – Animal Crossing, Luigi’s Mansion and Pokemon X/Y – hitting the console this year will certainly provide ample opportunity for DS owners to upgrade.
Nintendo’s UK marketing manager Shelly Pearce said: “Our aim is obviously to upgrade as many DS owners as possible and with our strongest ever software line up and with games which appeal to all of our different audiences, this year really is the year of 3DS.”
Backed by vigorous marketing schemes and television advertising, the 3DS will not lose touch with its consumers, as it continues to build its social communities through media and events. And Shelly Pearce believes that there really is something for everyone on the console: “[The] 3DS has really come into its own over the last two years. The 2013 software line-up is the strongest we’ve ever had and combined with a diverse back-catalogue that includes both Nintendo favourites like Mario, Professor Layton and Zelda as well as titles like Kid Icarus and Heroes of Ruin or New Style Boutique, there really is something for everyone.”
Animal Crossing: New Leaf’s release is just under two months away and to make things even better, UK retailer GAME is offering an exclusive Animal Crossing figurine when you pre-order the game. The figurine features Isabelle, assistant to the mayor and wonderful addition to New Leaf, standing in front of the Town Hall. It also comes with the previously announced Animal Crossing 3DS XL White bundle, but only while stocks last, so get in there quick!
Nintendo of America has confirmed that the Animal Crossing Nintendo 3DS XL bundle will be arriving in North America. Nintendo of America didn’t mention a release date, but I would presume it’s coming the same day as Animal Crossing: New Leaf launches.
